To help organizations stay identity smart this year, we sat down with identity expert Jacqui Taylor, ProofID Senior Program Manager to understand her top five SailPoint implementation best practices. Here’s what she had to say.

1 . Drive Early Stakeholder Engagement

It’s essential to engage key stakeholders and end-users early in the SailPoint IdentityIQ implementation process, Jacqui stressed. Understanding their needs and pain points will help you drive solutions that address clearcut issues and add tangible value.

In fact, Jacqui said, the earlier you involve them, the more likely you are to identify potential issues and find solutions that work for everyone. Implementing early input shows stakeholders and users that you value their opinion, while saving time on the deployment end and ensuring a smoother launch overall.

2 . Clean Data, Results in Fewer Problems

Poor data quality can have a hugely negative impact on the accuracy and effectiveness of your SailPoint implementation, Jacqui told us. That’s why it’s so important to start yourself off on the right foot by making time to clean application and entitlement data before you start. Think of it as cultivating a clean worktop —wouldn’t you rather cook in a clean kitchen than a messy one?

Data quality issues are much easier to address early in the implementation process before the system is up and running, rather than later down the line when too many moving parts make it difficult to sort through data.

3 . Automate, Automate, Automate

Find opportunities to automate wherever possible in your IdentityIQ implementation. Automating processes can improve efficiency, reduce errors, and free up time for more strategic work, so taking advantage of automation now can save you a lot of stress and anxiety later.

Try looking for opportunities to use IdentityIQ’s foundational functionality to drive automation and reduce manual work. It’ll be worth it in the long run.

4 . Audit and Compliance

Like much of the prep work needed for implementing SailPoint, when it comes to audit and compliance, Jacqui emphasized the importance of starting early.

It’s essential to consider audit and compliance as early as possible. Work within your team to develop repeatable reporting that helps easily answer key compliance questions, ensuring the process remains as quick and painless as possible. Meeting regulatory requirements can sometimes be stressful, but coming up with a formula and reusing it each time can help take away some of the pressure.

5 . Know your Requirements

When preparing to implement SailPoint IdentityIQ, it’s imperative to define the requirements you want to operate under to ensure you meet your goals. Decide on a destination, and then figure out how to get there together.

Having clear goals and objectives will help keep the project on track and ensure that everyone is working toward the same end result. Take the time to define requirements upfront so that everyone is on the same page from the beginning. This will help avoid scope creep and ultimately make sure the implementation meets all of your organization’s needs.

Prepare for Success

When starting any new project, it’s important to be prepared. This is especially true of a complex but very necessary undertaking like implementing SailPoint. But by starting early, aligning goals, and taking advantage of automation, it’s easy to create a successful path to implementation and to be Identity smart. Contact us for more information.
