The Future of Workforce Identity Security.
Transforming Identity and Access Management (IAM) for a healthcare multinational, migrating over 140 applications in a 12-week timeframe
DaVita found that it needed to make improvements in its approach to Identity and Access Management (IAM). In particular, it required experience and resources to help it migrate a complex, legacy, and proprietary single sign-on (SSO) infrastructure.
The ultimate goal was a standards-based SSO that could federate a wide range of SaaS and on-premise legacy applications without impacting users or affecting operations.
DaVita settled upon the PingFederate platform, developed by Ping Identity, as its SSO infrastructure solution of choice. This was implemented by ProofID, a Ping Identity-certified platinum partner with broad expertise with managing large and complex IAM projects.
ProofID worked closely with DaVita’s in-house team to federate over 120 legacy applications and a further 20 SaaS applications. The development of backwards compatibility made for a ‘transition’ period of 12 weeks, in which the legacy SSO infrastructure remained in place in order to minimise business disruption.
The federation was carried out successfully, and DaVita was confident and satisfied enough to deprecate the legacy SSO infrastructure 12 weeks after starting the project.
ProofID also took the project further by developing a reference architecture and reference implementation for the office of the CTO and application development teams. The reference documentation provided a repeatable approach, accelerating deployment time of new applications.
