As the world’s leading independent conservation organisation, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) does vital work in almost 100 countries globally. To coordinate it all, their network of conservationists and employees need access to both local and global IT services, every day.

Different usernames and passwords were required across various services, and this was increasing the volume of helpdesk calls to assist users with their credentials. Not only was this hampering collaboration and the user experience, but was also preventing uptake of services.

With the guidance of the ProofID IAM Architecture team, WWF International selected PingFederate to provide secure, standards-based, federated single sign-on across all of its global IT services. Deployed as a managed solution in the ProofID cloud, it gave WWF users a highly resilient authentication service, free of any dependence on a particular country or region.

Flexible deployment options meant users could authenticate against their local source, typically Active Directory in their ‘home’ office. That meant they could access global applications and services, without the need for WWF to manage the complexity of separate ‘global’ identities and credentials for each user.

WWF users, wherever they are in the world, can now log onto applications in their local office and international IT services using the same username and passwords. This has cut onboarding time, reduced security risks, and eased credential management.

For WWF as an organization, much of the complexity of providing services in such a large, distributed operation has been removed. Its security profile has been substantially improved, and some individual offices have been able to build upon the platform to secure their own applications and services.
