ProofID | Fraud in the Age of AI: Ping Identity Roadshow Takeaways

Written by Cody Cook | Jan 13, 2026 3:24:03 PM

I recently joined our partners at Ping Identity for their Fraud Roadshow — exploring the growing challenge of digital deception. What struck me most wasn’t just how sophisticated fraud has become, but how rapidly it’s evolving. In the age of AI, fraud has moved beyond phishing and stolen credentials; it’s now a game of deepfakes, synthetic identities, and real-time manipulation.

The New Fraud Frontier

We’ve entered an era where attackers no longer stop at the network perimeter. They’re targeting users, sessions, and even trust itself. From AI-driven deepfakes that can mimic a real customer’s voice or face, to adversary-in-the-middle attacks that hijack active sessions, the identity layer has become the new battlefield.

As a technologist, I’ve always believed that effective defense starts with understanding behavior, not just authentication events. Fraud prevention isn’t about adding friction; it’s about intelligently adapting to risk. The real challenge is balancing user experience with protection in a way that feels seamless.

People Still Matter

One of the most resonant messages from the event was the reminder that fraud remains a profoundly human problem. Attackers exploit trust, fatigue, and familiarity just as much as technology gaps. Whether it’s social engineering, credential reuse, or insider threats, understanding human behavior is critical to protecting your users.

Two Pillars of Modern Fraud Defense

At the roadshow, Ping Identity showcased an approach that unites verification and protection — verifying who a user is and protecting how they act.

  • PingOne Verify brings document and selfie verification with AI-powered liveness detection to stop fake users before they enter your system.
  • PingOne Protect continuously assesses session risk using behavioral biometrics, bot detection, and device intelligence to catch anomalies in real time.

Together, these form what I call an adaptive identity firewall — a dynamic defense that learns, responds, and scales with the threat landscape.

Where ProofID Comes In

At ProofID, our mission is to turn powerful identity technologies into practical business outcomes. We’ve worked side-by-side with Ping Identity across industries, from banking to fast food chains, helping organizations deploy adaptive fraud prevention strategies that deliver measurable ROI.

Our role is to bridge strategy and execution: integrating, tuning, and optimizing solutions like PingOne Verify and Protect to make sure they fit seamlessly into complex ecosystems. Because real security doesn’t just depend on technology — it depends on how well it’s implemented.

My Takeaway

Fraud isn’t going away. It’s adapting, learning, and in many ways, automating faster than ever. But so are we. With AI-powered identity tools, behavioral insights, and expert integration, organizations can stay one step ahead of digital deception.

If you’re reassessing your fraud prevention strategy, I’d encourage you to start with your identity layer. That’s where today’s attackers are aiming — and where the strongest defenses are now being built.
